P Battery (The Dragon Troop) - Who are They?

In 1840, the troop was sent to China to fight in the Opium Wars, during which the British forces captured the Island of Hong Kong.

in 1841, it provided artillery support for a combined land and sea force assault on the formidable line of forts guarding the mouth of the Siakiang River.

For its contribution, the Honour title "Dragon" was confirred, and China Dragon and the years "1840-1842" were included in its insignia.

The Battery is attached to 5 Regiment Royal Artillery, based at the largest military garrison outside Warminster, Marne Barracks, Catterick, North Yorkshire.

P Battery (The Dragon Troop) - Its affiliation to the Wakefield Branch

The Battery often support the Branch and The City of Wakefield Metropolitan Council at events, namely Wakefield's Remembrance Day Parade and the Branch Saint Barabara's Day Celebration.

In return, the Battery hold regular events such as Catterick Race Day, Dragon Day (the Battery's birthday celebrations), hosts the Northern Royal Artillery Association's Annual General Meeting in the Sargent's Mess and family days to which the Branch is invited.

Fundraising

Once again in September, members of P Battery are to participate in the gruelling annual challenging Bullock Smithy Hike in order to raise awareness of the Royal Artillery Association within the Battery and to raise funds for the Branch so we can continue to help those who are in need.
